The Gremlin was a compact car marketed by American Motors in the seventies. Although successful, it has come to be one of AMC's most infamous cars, and a possible contributor to the decline of AMC. A performance version known as the Gremlin X was also provided. The car had its own logo depicting a cartoon gremlin, found only on the gascap.
Name[]
A gremlin is a type of mythological creature, typically fiendish. As of the 1970s, the gremlin was best known as a small monster capable of sabotaging warplanes. The creature had come into pop culture during World War II. This makes it ironic that a car would be named after such a creature.
Motorsport[]
The Gremlin competed in the IMSA GT Championship.
In Film[]
In the Pixar film Cars 2, Gremlins are depicted as working for antagonist Professor Z, who is attempting to conquer the world for all cars with low fuel economy.
Video Gaming[]
As a part of the game's novelty car theme, the Gremlin X was included in racing video game Forza Motorsport 4.
